Taika Waititi wants to follow new characters in his film “Star Wars”

Taika Waititi has shared new information about his plans for the star wars film he is developing.

While Lucasfilm offers non-stop TV shows through Disney Plus, their theatrical slate has been sparse lately. It was initially announced that Thieves Squadron of wonder woman director Patty Jenkins would be next star wars film to hit theaters, but Lucasfilm executive Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed Taika Waititi’s film will now arrive first.

Taikia Waititi’s project was first announced in 2020, and the director recently shared that he’s still writing his star wars film. In an interview with Total movieWaititi talked more about his approach to star wars franchise and the need to expand beyond the Skywalker saga:

“Look, I think for the Star Wars universe to grow, it has to grow. I don’t think I’m needed in the Star Wars universe to make a movie where everyone’s like, ‘Oh great , well, that’s the blueprints for the Millennium Falcon, ah that’s Chewbacca’s grandma’. just expand the world, otherwise I feel like it’s a very small story.

The end of the Skywalkers

Takia Waititi’s comments are similar to what Kevin Feige said about his movie. The majority of star wars projects to date have followed the Skywalker family in one way or another. Same The Mandalorian brought in Luke Skywalker at the end of its second season. The franchise has also become known for constantly revisiting the desert planet of Tatooine.

The Acolyte will be the first of what appears to be several future star wars Lucasfilm projects that won’t build on the franchise’s legacy characters and instead create new ones. One area where we see this come to fruition is the High Republic era, which is beginning to expand into other mediums beyond literature. Kathleen Kennedy also teased that future films will move forward and explore the time after the sequel trilogy.

Here is the synopsis of Taika Waititi’s next film, Thor: Love and Thunder:

The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on an unprecedented journey – a quest for inner peace. But his retreat is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magic hammer, Mjolnir, as Mighty. Thor. Together they embark on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s revenge and stop him before it’s too late.

Directed by Taika Waititi and produced by Kevin Feige and Brad Winderbaum, the film stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn and Russell Crowe.

Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters on July 8, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding Taika Waititi star wars cinema, and subscribe on the Heroic Hollywood YouTube channel for more original video content.
