‘Mithyam’ arrives at the Cannes Film Market | Mangaluru News

Mangaluru: India is a ‘country of honour’ at the Marché du Film (Cannes Film Market), the commercial counterpart of the Cannes Film Festival, and there is much talk of Bollywood celebrities in Cannes, but the coastal region has also a reason to celebrate. ‘Mithyam- the false truth’, a film directed by Raghu Naik, originally from Gokarna in the Uttara Kannada district, is one of the films presented at the Cannes Film Market. The film is about a diligent doctor named Abhay, who discovers a mysterious increase in mercury poisoning cases among the population.
Raghu Naik, after leaving a lucrative and well-paying software job in Atlanta, moved to Mumbai in 2010 and joined film school to professionally pursue his lifelong passion for filmmaking. He became a citizen of the world, working and living in cities like Mumbai, Jakarta and Atlanta, as well as Belagavi and Pune. This exposure to diverse international art, literature, culture and films is what inspired Raghu to become a filmmaker. He told TOI: “Mithyam is my first feature film as a director, and it’s a labor of pure love and hard work. The response at the festival has been good so far,” he said. he declares.
Naik previously worked on a sci-fi fantasy series and a web series. His brother Vinayak Naik, with an experience of more than two and a half decades at the head of technological companies on a global scale, and after having lived in many countries, started in the cinema in 2013. The protagonist of the film is played by Ankit Varshneya, a new talent from Mumbai.
Among the cast and crew, many others have a coastal connection. For example, Parivesh Padhy, who plays the character of Rahul Sharma in the film, graduated from college in Manipal. Parivesh has been active in the Hindi film industry for many years, producing films and reality shows, when not acting and modeling. He said: “The team also participates in several online workshops and programs, as part of the Cannes Film Market. The OTT release is expected to take place shortly after the festival,” he said.
Vijay Krishna from Bengaluru plays the role of Sanjay in the film. He is a theater actor and has also starred in several web series.
