MADURAI: In a first, a transgender publishing company and a transgender film company were inaugurated on Saturday at E2E2 Road of Narimedu in the district. A modernized transgender library was also opened in the same premises.
Priya Babu, a transgender person, said the trans publications and films company, which is the first such example, was inaugurated after registering as an MSME. A book was also released during the function. Through trans publishing, we would publish books written by transgender people and trans literature, she said. “Many transgender people are interested in writing but not writing books due to confusion among community members about acceptance of their works by other publications. We are also publishing a novel called Kotravai next month,” she said.
Also, Priya said that through Trans Films, they plan to promote films about transgender people. She pointed out that they are planning to shoot a transgender movie named “Ariagandi” (a story of a transgender person Arigandi who lived in a Jamin 400 years ago) focusing on the life of transgender people. “It would be the first historical transgender film. It will be me who will direct it”, underlined Priya Babu.
