If you’re the type of person who can’t put down a good book and don’t mind doing it in a luxury hotel in the Indian Ocean, then this job offer will definitely appeal to you.

The Soneva Fushi resort on the remote island of Kunfunadhoo in the Maldives is looking for someone to manage its bookshop on a one year contract.

Duties include general day to day management of a small store including sales, ensuring stock is up to date and just being a friendly public face.

The winning candidate will also be expected to lead creative writing and bibliotherapy classes, as well as tutoring guests ages 9-18 and literary lectures.

Excellent written and spoken English skills are required, along with “knowledge of classic and modern literature” and a good command of social media. Experience in bookselling and publishing is also considered “essential”.

The “Barefoot Bookseller” is run by Ultimate Library, and the UK-based company expects a flood of interest in the role.

The base salary of NZ$1,200 per month can be increased by running additional book-related workshops or classes, reports The Guardian.

Meals are also paid for and the new recruit has access not only to the gym and spa, but also to a private staff-only beach.

Applications close on August 13 and the winning candidate will begin in October.
