If the buzz in the industry is to pass, Suriya and Shankar are all set to team up for a movie, which would be based on the Velpari novel. Suriya had recently hinted during Karthi’s Viruman audio launch that he would be collaborating with Madurai MP Su Venkatesan for a project. Now we learn that Venkatesan is working on the story and director Shankar will helm the project. If the news is indeed confirmed, this will be Suriya’s first collaboration with Shankar.
The film is said to be a large-scale project that revolves around the story of the great Tamil king Pari, who was one of the reasons why kings Chera, Chola and Pandiya tried to wage war on the small kingdom of Parambo. It is said to have been praised by around 300 villages across the kingdom. He was also known for his benevolence and patronage towards art and literature. He was one of the last kings of the Sangam era and his generosity is still mentioned from time to time today. The estimated budget for the film is said to be around Rs 1,000 crore. The film is going to be made in full scale and the official announcement is ready to be made once the team confirms the initial works.
In the meantime, Suriya has a jam-packed prize pool with Bala’s Vanangan, Vetri Maaran’s Vaadivaasal and Siruthai Siva’s Suriya 42. All the films are in different stages of production. Director Shankar, meanwhile, is busy simultaneously filming Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 and RC15. It seems that after Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, a number of filmmakers are delving into the history of Tamil heritage and coming up with projects featuring the same
