Detroit Film Critics Name Cyrano Best Picture

The Detroit Film Critics Society (DFCS) is pleased to announce the top 2021 nominees and winners in thirteen categories. The DFCS was founded in the spring of 2007 and currently consists of a group of twelve Michigan film critics who write or broadcast in the Metro Detroit area.

Each review submitted their top five picks in the following categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Ensemble, Best Breakthrough (across all categories) , Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Documentary, Best Animated Feature, and Best Use of Music / Sound. From these submissions, each entry received a point value and the top five in each category were placed on the final ballot.

Cyrano had a total of four nominations and two wins in the Best Picture and Best Actor categories for Peter Dinklage. king richard also received four nominations and ended with a victory for Jon Bernthal as best supporting actor. Tick, tick… BOOM! also won four nominations, earning a victory for director Lin-Manuel Miranda. Jessica Chastain won the Best Actress award for her transformative performance in Tammy Faye’s eyes. Two categories ended tied as To flee and Summer of Soul (… Or, when the revolution couldn’t be televised) tied for Best Documentary while Best Breakthrough went to Woody Norman, for his performance in go! Go on as well as Emma Seligman, for her efforts as a writer and director of baby shiva. The full list of results is available below.
