‘The Beatryce Prophecy’ Book-to-Movie Adaptation Coming to Amazon – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Amazon Studios locked the film rights to the New York Times #1 bestseller Beatryce’s Prophecy of Newbery’s double medalist Kate Di Camillotyping twice Emmy nominated Brad Copeland (Development stopped) to script an adaptation.

Gil Netter will produce the fantastic photo for Netter Filmswith the Vice President of Corporate Development and Production Jennie Lee as executive producer.

Published by Candlewick in September 2021 and illustrated by Sophie Blackall, Beatryce’s Prophecy is presented as a fantastical meditation on fate, love and the power of words to spell out the world.

The official synopsis of the book is as follows: In time of war, a mysterious child appears at the monastery of the Order of the Chronicles of Sorrows. Kind brother Edik finds the girl, Beatryce, curled up in a stall, ravaged by fever, covered in dirt and blood, and clutching Answelica the goat’s ear tightly. As the monk tends to Beatryce, he discovers her dangerous secret, a secret that puts them all at risk – for the king of the land is looking for such a girl, and Brother Edik, who wrote the prophecy himself, knows why.

Beatryce’s Prophecy the film marks the second collaboration between Copeland, DiCamillo and Netter Films following the Disney+ adaptation of DiCamillo’s book Flora & Ulysses, written by Copeland, produced by Netter and co-produced by Lee. Copeland also recently penned the feature comedy Jerry and Marge are getting bigwith Bryan Cranston and Annette Bening, for Netter Films and Paramount+.

Former National Ambassador for Children’s Literature, DiCamillo won the Newbery Award for her novels The Legend of Despereaux and Flora & Ulysses in 2003 and 2014 respectively. Copeland once wrote the Oscar-nominated 20th Century Fox feature Fernandoalso writing and producing several seasons of the Emmy-winning comedy series Development stopped. Netter was previously president of Zucker Brothers Productions, where he oversaw production of the 1990 hit Phantom.
