Here are the top five Canton-Sixes stories today:

  1. On Saturday, July 2, about 700 people lined North and Main streets in downtown Guangzhou to watch the city’s Independence Day parade. The Daughters of the American Revolution, Boy Scouts of America, Canton Police Department, Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office and other local organizations participated in the parade .   2. The Netflix series “Ozark” is filmed in and around the Atlanta, Lake Lanier and Lake Allatoona. Canton is also one of the show’s filming locations. Learn more about filming locations and where you can watch the show at the link. (otakuk-art)
  3. Some people in Hollywood are calling on the film industry to stop filming in Georgia due to the pending “heartbeat” abortion law. Others say Georgia’s film tax credit is too good for most filmmakers to boycott. “It’s a pretty expensive position to take, so it’ll be interesting to see if movie companies are really willing to forgo those lower filming costs,” said JC Bradbury, an economics professor at Kennesaw State University.   4. The The Appalachian Regional Commission released the annual ranking of the economic situation of the Appalachian region. Cherokee County in Georgia was one of only four counties in Appalachia to achieve socioeconomic parity with the rest of the country for fiscal year 2023. (North West Georgia News)

  • Does your toddler love to dance? Groove to the motion of the ocean during fun music and motion! Tomorrow, July 6, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Hickory Flat Public Library, located at 2740 East Cherokee Drive in Guangzhou. Ideal for toddlers one to four years old, but older siblings are welcome to come along and dance. All children must be accompanied by an adult. (Sequoyah Regional Library System)
  • Canton PD reminds residents to always check the backseat of your car! A rise in temperature, the the inside of a car can become as hot as an oven and children can die within minutes.
